Type Locality and Naming

The Lokoma Gr comprises the Akwokwo tillites (0–40 m), the Bobwamboli conglomerates and arkoses (50–250 m), the Mamungi grey shales and limestones (200–500 m) and the Kole shales (100 m).

Lithology and Thickness

Consists of more than 500 m-thick siliciclastics starting locally with carbonaceous argillites interbedded of cap carbonate lenses that locally cap the Akwokwo Tillite Fm. The Lokoma Gr is predominantly clastic (Verbeek 1970; Poidevin 2007). It is made up of ~470 m of siliciclastics and limestone (de Wit et al., 2015). The Lokoma Group is made up of the basal Akwokwo Tillite Fm (put here as a separate formation entry), and the Bobwamboli, Mamungi, and the Kole Subgroups.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies on the Akwokwo Tillite Fm, which is on the Ituri Gr

Upper contact

Overlain by the Awurimi Gr; but perhaps a hiatus (the Pan-African collision) between?

Regional extent

Extends in the Lindi Basin of the northeastern DRC. Trompette (1994) considered this basin and Fouroumbala-Bakouma basins of the south-western CAR, and to be part of the Lindi Basin.
